Run Your Best- Every Time You Run

Being home for Thanksgiving break has definitely been full of changes this year. My brothers weren’t home to feast with us, which is terribly sad because his dogs are the best running companions. We also went to someone else’s house for Thanksgiving….but, most excitingly, my mom and I started out the day with our first ever Turkey Trot! We even had Seth’s family join us too- yay!

Despite the 6:30AM wake-up call for us, the drive over, and the colder morning, Seth and I both hit PRs! He also got first in his class and 7th overall, holy smokes! He’s like lightning guys, looks like I found my trainer…hehe.

So thanksgiving was great, ran my best, but then come down to today’s run….. I was burnt out. It got me down to thinking about the reasons why. And more importantly, it may be things that you’re doing routinely that are hindering you from being the best runner you can be! Let’s take a look.

All Hail Post-Run Turkey Sandwich

It is the day after Thanksgiving, and the madness of Black Friday has begun (or has been going on)……may the sales be with you. Now let’s be serious, the best part of today is all your leftover turkey turns into those wonderful sandwiches you’re gonna eat as a post run meal. Right?!

How many of you remember this line from Finding Nemo?!  One of my all time favorite kid movies, can’t lie. Although, now that I am older, I find this quote a little more comical for a different reason.

As a shark, fish is probably your best source of food for energy for all the daily functions. Uhh, HELLLOOOO Bruce! Why are you cutting out fish then?! Maybe Bruce is trying to work on his figure a little, hehe.

Running Sucks…Until You’re Running!

High school was the first time I was ever really exposed to running any kind of distance more than around the track a time or two. I was on the varsity soccer team and can distinctly remember how petrified I was when I heard instructions to do a two or three mile “warmup” run. You can just imagine the look on my face when I heard those words. You want me to run how far…?

Thinking back to those days, it’s pretty apparent to me that those exact feelings are probably what keep a lot of people from ever getting off their couch to try the sport. And I don’t really blame them! Training for my first 5K (just a local race on the high school cross-country course) was one of the hardest things I had ever done up until that point in my life. If just over three miles of hard running was so daunting to someone who was fairly active in sports, I can only imagine how tough must be for someone who just wants to be able to say that they at least jogged it after never having any running experience.
